The Artist I recently checked out the latest CD from singer/songwriter Fred Mckinney entitled High Water. Turns out McKinney comes to us from Ohio.

The band Standard line-up which includes McKinney on guitar & vocals & a slew of impressive session players. I would say the band possesses average to above average folk, R&B & rockabilly paying abilities. You will find many impressive musical licks along the way. Timing is spot on within the rockabilly, folk, R&B  grooves. McKinney can hold his own on the guitar & vocals, but more importantly McKinney is a gifted storyteller. With those 2 talents he can be a dangerous artist indeed. The music possesses a Bluesy, Rockabilly, Folk-ish type stigma. All in all great music to eat a Sunday morning brunch to. Definitely classic Americana feel that that is timeless & emotional. Music will remind you of classic John Prine with a touch of Woody Gutherie, Bob Dylan & even Dr. John. The songs Simply put - some songs are fun, other will make you think as McKinney isn't afraid of bold honesty either. Theres nothing like a good spirited musical production to get wrapped around & this is one of them. I kept waiting for a weak song to come down the pike - I eventually gave up on that. Overall very upbeat, positive, with amazing stories that possess incredible highs & a few serious lows. The CD has its share of happy & melancholy moments. Simply put  - very much like life itself this CD personifies life experience, with music that are 100% honest, pure & genuine in nature - all a reflection of the artist. The production May not be the  most polished sounding production I've ever heard but McKinney & company make up for it in other areas. Overall this CD is quite marketable. The good Honorable mentions go out to the gifted songwriting & storytelling abilities of Fred McKinney. This is the guy I would enjoy sitting next to on a long airplane flight. This is one band that let's it all hang out & no doubt had allot of fun in the process. Folks out there who enjoy Americana, Rockabilly, R&B, Folk & even Rock that sounds in the vein of John Prine, Woody Gutherie, Jimmy Buffet & perhaps a dash of Dr. John will fall head over heals with this CD. The bad Nothing to report. The ugly Nothing to report.

The verdict High Water by Fed McKinney has everything: good playing, fancy picking, amazing songs, heart felt vocals, & music that covers all the bases Country, R&B, Folk, Americana & even a dash of Rock. All in all High Water by Fred McKinney is an American delight. The Bottom Line WARNING - If you listen to this CD you run the risk getting hooked on the music of Fred McKinney.
