The Artist I recentlychecked out the latest release from Southern California Singer/Songwriter Fang I-Liu entitled Confessions (2011). Lui is originally from Taiwan and she has several impressive session players backing her up on the EP.
The band Liu and company bring to the table some impressive playing and writing. I would say this band clearly possesses above average playing and above average writing abilities. You will find many impressive chops and a passionate production style presented along the way. Timing is spot on throughout the CD. Liu definitely holds her own remarkably on vocals and definitely wins your focal point. The music possesses a very passionate melodic-pop sound that was very popular in the late 80's and early 90's. Some pieces even cross the line into Pop Rock or Light Rock. Music is upbeat, emotional and easy to groove to. It will remind you of classic Taylor Dane, and Expose The songs Simply put - all songs are well rounded with amazing highs and a powerful lows. There’s nothing like a good musical production to fill your sonic space, this is definitely one of them. Simply put, very much like life itself this EP personifies the human experience, with music that are 100% honest, pure and genuine. The production professional grade from start to finish with crystal clear recording quality. There's not many songs you can listen to time and time again. The good Overall - a remarkably consistent, well rounded EP. Honorable mentions go out to the remarkable vocal presence of Fang I-Liu and all the behind the scenes production work from the band and the Producers involved. The bad Unfortunately CD lacks a sharp marketable edge. Like I mentioned before the CD reminds me of female driven pop music that was huge roughly 20 years ago. If this EP was spiced up a bit with a more modern flavor like Pink of Fergie it would be much more marketable. Fang I-Liu is in a tough league with respect to this particular genera - however she is clearly headed in the right direction with her look, voice and songwriting. The ugly Nothing to report.
The verdict Confessions by Fang I-Liu is an impressive collection of music. Fang I-Liu has star quality and is a marquee talent. She has all the vocal talent and sex appeal required of an artist. Her musical personality shines on with a rare brilliance comparable to a priceless gem. Her vocal abilities clearly set a high standard within this genre and the more you listen to her the more she will reveal herself to you. Folks who want a catchy pop-rock-dance sound will love this release.
