The Verdict 5 out of 5

The Artist I recently checked out the latest 5 song EP by Seattle 4 piece band Seven Against Thebes of 7AT. The band consists of Rusty Hoyle (vocals) Cyrus Rhodes (guitars) Bruce Burgess (Drums) & Dave Black (Bass)

The band Standard 4 piece line-up. This band clearly possesses above average to advanced playing abilities within the  Progressive Metal, Hard Rock genera. One could get spoiled listening to these guys play. You will find many impressive musical licks splashed everywhere - & it doesn't sound like a 3 ring circus act either. Timing is spot on within the genera. Rhodes can hold his own on rhythm guitar & delivers some blistering solo work. Burgess is clearly an accomplished drummer comparable to Danny Carey (TOOL) Hoyle's vocal persona is infectious as he is clearly an effective front-man persona. His vocals are reminiscent of classic Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) & Chris Cornell (Soundgarden). Bassist Dave Black is dead in the pocket - all 4 make a pretty deadly combination The music possesses high octane hard rock delivery. Each song runs it's course perfectly & just flows well song for song, note for note. All in all great music to work out to. Has a very modern day feel that that is timeless with impressive performances. As to be expected the music of 7AT will remind you of Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden  & even Alice in Chains. The songs Simply put - all songs are well crafted. Lyrical content is entertaining & mysterious at the same time. I kept waiting for a weak song to come down the pike - I eventually gave up on that. In fact as the songs kept coming I became more & More impressed. Overall very dark, thought provoking, & melodic music with solid grooves & incredible highs & lows. The production May not be as polished as some of the more high end productions coming out nowadays but 7AT make s up for it in other areas of expertise. Overall this EP is quite marketable. The good Honorable mentions go out to the gifted songwriting & playing abilities of 7AT & brainchild Cyrus Rhodes. This 4 piece gels well together.  This is one of those bands that let's it all hang out. Folks out there who enjoy all the aforementioned bands will tumble over 7AT. The bad Nothing to report. The ugly Nothing to report.

The verdict The 5 song Equilibrium EP by Seven Against Thebes is one of the best bands I've heard in a long time. It has everything from fancy picking, amazing songs, passionate vocals, & music that will get the blood pumping. If this band has a gland slam live presentation they would no doubt be a force to be reckoned with. Presently I See no tour dates listed on their URL. I would keep a watchful eye on this band. 7AT gets my vote for hottest new band of 2011 & Equilibrium one of the best EP's I've heard this year. The Bottom Line WARNING - If you listen to this EP you run the risk of getting your face melted
